April 2007

(30/4/07) One of our opponents for the coming season is having a competition on Saturday 7th July. The 3rd Cambridgeshire Open is now shown on the competitions page. The picture to the right is Maggie Sutton receiving her 'Best Dart Average' award for the division achieved against Bucks recently.

(29/4/07) The Men's Superleague league table and results, and the averages are in for week 21.

Winner of the Middlesex Superleague Singles is Jamie Sadler....... Oh Yesh! Jamie beat Ian McNeill in the final. Winners of the Superleague pairs are Micky Doabe and Richie Davis, who beat Jim Byrne and Paul Davis in the final.

(28/4/07) Here are the individual performance statistics for the game against Sussex. Pictured to the right is Ian La La La La La Long receiving his man of the match award for the game against Sussex, you know the other chap by now.

I have received kind comments regarding the video equipment at the game against Sussex, its good to be appreciated. With that in mind it should be noted that Roger Schena loaned us the projector and screen to allow Middlesex County the opportunity to assess the performance of his equipment, and as such save us spending money on equipment that may well be too good/expensive for our needs - thanks Roger.

There are many people worthy of praise within the county, but whilst on the subject of technology Terry Andrews deserves a special mention for setting up and operating the audio equipment almost entirely over the whole weekend, whilst also helping out with the video and the numerator.

(27/4/07) My scanner is playing up at the mo, so I will have the individual performances from the game against Sussex when I've sorted it. In the mean time our victorious chairman has provided his match report. Lady of the match in the A against Sussex was Maggie Sutton, pictured with Vic Sexton.

(24/4/07) There is a lot of info to bring you all over the next week or so please bear with me, tomorrow the web site will have the individual player averages. Dean Nixon and Anita Daly  (pictured with Vic Sexton of Sussex) won the B team MOM,  and LOM respectively, and Ian Long and Maggie Sutton doing the same for the A team.

The cameras taking the video for the projector over the weekend also captured some still images of the A Team players. Click the players name below to see them throwing darts on stage.

Ladies - Karen Daly, Sonia Duffy, Sharon Heaffey, Lisa Norton, Maggie Sutton, Denise Burton.

Mens - Alan Taylor, Peter Barnes, Micky Doabe, Mark Haggerty, Gary Lewis, John Maudsley, Ben Stevenson, Jamie Sadler, Roy Peacock, Ian Long, Richie Davis.

There is a new link on the Links page to the England Darts Organisation.

(23/4/07) Middlesex and Cheshire win promotion to the Premier Division whilst Sussex and London are demoted.

Another champagne moment for the ladies as the A team storm to a 6-0 win and to the top of their section becoming the champions for 2006/7. The Ladies B have now been confirmed as champions.

The results page has been update and has the fixtures for 2007/8.... more to follow tomorrow.

(22/4/07) A 4 -2 win by the Ladies B make them champions of their section I am told, while the Men's B win 7-5 with the Man of the Match award going to Dean Nixon with a 26.00 average. With Dorset dropping 6 points and Buckinghamshire only making up two points, promotion to the Premier Division is almost assured.

Keep up with the results of the A team match today using the live match update service.

(18/4/07) Thought for the weekend - "Sometimes it is good to see the whole picture, but if you are part of a team then look after your own part of the picture and the big picture will look after the seagulls following the trawler" - Cantona 1999.

Don't forget the race night at Tithe Farm this Friday!!

(16/4/07) Kevin Lynch beat Alex Roy in the final of the LPR tournament. Yes I said Kevin Lynch, and yes I said Alex Roy. Good to see Kevin back to form and good to have a top player like Alex Roy at the tournament, though I was surprised as I thought that he would be in Antwerp with other PDC players.

On that subject Jason Clark beat Mervyn King in the first round and then Mark Dudbridge in the second round of the Antwerp Darts Trophy. Cruising at one set to nil and on a double to take the second set, Jason looked destined to go much further. However his opponent Denis Ovens bashed out a 146 finish to turn the tables on Clarky.

(13/4/07) Oops! I should have picked up on the LPR tournament to be played (136 Greenford Rd, Harrow) on the 14th April as it will be great practice for the weekend to follow.  Registration starts at 13.00 and the competition starts at 15.00, £10 entry fee with £300 to the winner, £150 to the Runner up, £70 for the semi-finalists, £30 if you reach the quarters, and £10 for the last 16 (subject to the number of entries). Parking and hot food available. 501 best of 5 in rounds 1&2, best of 7 in the last 16, and best of 9 there afterwards.

The last 8 from the Gold Cup Qualifiers were as follows, Scott Robertson bt Steve Hyatt, Richie Davis bt Ben Stevenson, Ian Long bt Jim "is that dartboard straight" Byrne, Micky Doabe bt Terry Andrews. In the semis Scott bt Richie, and Ian bt Mickie. Final as shown below with Scottie getting suitably inebriated to beat Ian.

(12/4/07) Scottie was too Hottie for the Longman in the Gold Cup Single Qualifiers final last night. Scot defeated Richie Davis in the first semi-final, whilst Ian defeated Micky Doabe with powerful darts in the other semi final.

(10/4/07) Maggie Sutton writes, "Great result last month, again, puts us 15 points clear of our nearest rivals to go up to the premier!  So lets go all out for the last match of a great season.

Thank you to all of those who have paid for their shirts for next season, it’s a really great help to the county financially and very much appreciated. I must remind you, however, that for those who are not buying their own shirt, if you change your mind later it will cost £40-45 and not the current first order price of £35.

There is a race night at Tithe Farm on Friday 20th April to raise money for the county youth squad (details from Mel). Please try to come and help raise funds for them, as these players are the future of Middlesex!"

The selectors have decided that 'if it ain't broke don't try to fix it', so there is only one change for the whole squad as Peter Stokes returns to the Men's B to replace Sweetcorn - details on the Players page.

(9/4/07) John Scott has provided the men's superleague table and results, and also the averages. Peter Green has an unassailable lead in the averages with only one match to play. Hayes FC B head the table with 27 points after drawing with Hayes FC A. Father Ted's have 26 with a game in hand so all still to play for.

(8/4/07) The Sussex web site is not extensive so don't waste your time unless you are really bored.

(7/4/07) Further detail is available regarding the Windsor competition described below.

(6/4/07) There is a new competition on the comps page to be played on the 15th of April in Windsor, so have a peep now or you will miss it.

(5/4/07) Spot the obvious 'mistake' on this newspaper clipping provided by competition winner Ian Long.  Enter you caption in the latest caption competition (when Talking Tungsten wakes up).

(4/4/07) Lairy501 has informed me (via Talking Tungsten) that a Mr Andy Tompkins and a Mr Jamie Sadler overcame the might of Mr Paul Davies and Mr Jim "is this board long, or is it short" Byrne in the Gold Cup Pairs final.

(3/4/07) Dave Bateman has sent in the match report for Bucks.

(2/4/07 p.m.) The statistics and the results have been updated from the game against Buckinghamshire.

(2/4/07 a.m.) There is a lot to go through over the next few days with the info from the weekend and news of a competition provided by Hoocheye. Fifi has already supplied the stats which will go on the site later today, and incredibly the promotion table has also been updated.

(1/4/07 p.m.) Glorious performances from all of the Middlesex Ladies A players, though the Bucks team provided stiff opposition. Karen Daly lost her 100% record in a high quality match with the Bucks captain, Sonia Duffy also did not manage to win her match. The first point won for the Ladies was won by Lady of the Match Maggy Sutton with a winning average over 25, Sharon Heaffey came close to topping that, and fine wins followed for both Lisa Norton and Denise Burton.

The 4 - 2 lead provided by the Ladies set the Men's A up nicely, wins followed for Ian Long, John Maudsley, Eddie Collinge (50th cap), Mark Haggerty, Alan Taylor, Man of the Match Richie Davis and our final winner Roy Peacock. The men won their match 7-5 making the overall result 20 - 16 to Middlesex plus the bonus point(s). A full report to follow by Dave Bateman.

Cheshire stride further away as Gwent lose more ground, no news on Dorset yet. The fat lady is warming her throat up ready to sing "We're going up, we're going up, we're going, Middlesex are going up", but she has not started yet as we have what might prove to be a difficult game against a resurgent Sussex who may yet escape demotion with a good result against us.

(1/4/07 a.m.) Late news from Alan Taylor, Dorset Ladies B 5 London Ladies B 1, Dorset Men's B 7 London Men's B 5. Dorset made up 6 points up on us yesterday.
