January 2008

(31/1/08) Vern Shepherd was on excellent form last night, but at 2-2 he was unable to clinch the last leg against Mark Walsh. Along with Mark, Peter Evison, Tony Hill, and Graham Inniss made their way to the last 8 (as did 4 others who for the time being shall remain nameless).

Many of you will know that Alan Talyor was recently referred to as Barry Pages dad by a swimming pool attendant in Hampshire. Alan Taylor, a mere 44 years old (or so), has just returned from Las Vegas and the story is that he was offered an senior citizens menu for over 55's in a restaurant called Dennie's. The Oil of Ulay sponsorship that Barry was trying to get for Alan now seems a lost cause.

(27/1/08) The Men's Superleague results / tables are in from John Scott, follow the link for his report. There is an important message for all those involved with the Men's Superleague on the same page.

Mark Walsh remains top of the individual averages (not surprising with a 35.79 in week 7), and Caesars remain top by two points having played one more game than Tithe Farm in second.  This Wednesday we have the Men's Superleague singles at Tithe Farm.

Next weekend the county has a difficult trip to Cheshire, visit their we site for info.

(24/1/08) Congratulations to Sharon Heaffey for her spectacular game against Yorkshire with a 25.47 average and a 3-0 win for Middlesex Ladies A.

Follow this link to the Ladies Superleague to read the latest stats that have been supplied by Jo Candler on Monday of this week.

Incidentally, I have had to upgrade my laptop and the software for this site is on the old one and all my day to day my work is on the new one. This is one of the many reasons why the web site is not updated as often as it was, the others are that my dog has bitten through the power cable for the old computer, I play darts on 2-3 nights a week, I also play county darts as some of you know, I run a business (and I am involved in a second one), I have other interests outside darts, I have a wife and family (the priorities are not necessarily the same as the order stated). None of which I apologise for.

(23/1/08) The ladies both in the A and the B continue to hold their own in the Premiership, but again the men struggle this time against a powerful Yorkshire men's squad. Gary Hawkins was the man of the match in the Men's B and as a result is promoted to the A along with in form Steve Hyatt.

The addition of long standing stalwart of the A team Alan Taylor could spark a revival in the B with his vast experience, as will Scott Robertson who for my money volunteered to return to the B team too soon. Eddie Collinge and Jim Byrne return to the B team that boasts 10 players to my knowledge that have played A team darts for Middlesex, on paper this makes it a very strong B team. A very strong B team performance against Cheshire would be great.

The Men's A will face perhaps an even stronger challenge against Cheshire than they did against Yorkshire, but the greater the challenge - the greater the glory! To see the official selection sheet click the link.

The performance figures for every Middlesex player for this year and last year are on the Statistics page.

(17/1/08) I don't know if anyone else is in the same boat, but I have been struggling with my darts since Christmas, though I played OK last night. It would be good if the ladies and gentlemen of the superleague and the county committees have a chat with each other before next season to ensure that we have as many league matches as possible just before county games, and in particular at the beginning of the season and after the Christmas break. I am sure that it may not be easy to achieve on all occasions, but it would be good for the county if we could. Perhaps a good solution would be to have a superleague committee member on the county committee and visa versa? Please disregard this paragraph if Middlesex slaughter Yorkshire, and in particular if I get a skinny win.

Good darts were on show last night when Father Teds played hosts to The Royal Oak, especially from the old Camden players of the 1980's (London Superleague) . Ray Cornibert, Richie Davis, and Shiny Shoes all had 29+, 29+, 28+ averages respectively.  Add to that Graham Parker hit a 28+ on Tuesday in the Surrey Superleague after coming back from illness.

Time permitting I will be putting the Ladies Superleague averages tomorrow.

Finally, there is a practice competition at the Tithe Farm on Friday, and anyone with gifts/prizes for the tombola should bring them on Saturday morning..

(5/1/08) This months opponents Yorkshire have launched their new web site. The first thing you will notice when you go there is that they have three men and one lady in the BDO Lakeside World Darts Championship. Its unlikely that we will catch some of their other squad players with a Christmas hangover, but certainly do not expect Martin Atkins, Scott Waites, John Walton, and Dee Bateman to be anything other than on top form!

(1/1/08) Happy New Year! You've heard it so many times already I know, but I think that as a county we need to look forward and not look back. That said, 12 months ago we would have been delighted to be thinking about life in the Premiership and playing the likes of Yorkshire.

I hope that the new year will bring us a little more luck than 2007 did, we certainly competed well in 2007 but the vast majority of the 3-2 games went against us. January 18th/19th 2008 gives us the opportunity to turn things around against Yorkshire, so why should we not go into the match with confidence?

One final thought. When you are losing a battle and the odds are stacked against you, you have the choice to accept your fate and roll over, or you can can grasp the opportunity for a greater glory.  The fat lady still hasn't warmed her tonsils yet, let alone start singing!
