June 2007

(30/6/07) The county AGM is tomorrow at the Tithe Farm at 11.00 a.m., attending and giving your opinion gives you your full rights to have your say for the rest of the year. If you do not attend but  voice your opinion later in he year, be prepared to hear "Where were you at the AGM".

It should not be a long meeting as "If it ain't broke don't try to fix it" seems appropriate, however there is always room to improve things. Sharing the responsibilities on match days would allow some of the players that help out with the stage set up or score recording for instance to concentrate just a little more on their darts.

I am not sure what the trophy is for in the picture, but its a nice one.

(29/6/07 p.m.) The results of the Grand Prix and the table is now available of DartsHome.com.

The picture is of Olly Croft O.B.E presenting me with a trophy that I think I was given for supporting the county through the web site and the camera system for the last season. Like so many people such as Fifi and Maggie, (to mention just two), I enjoy helping as much as I can - the difference is that most of the others have done so for years on end. Thanks to Barry for providing the trophy, the county committee for voting for me, and everyone who knows me (anyone got a tissue?).

(29/6/07) Talking Tungsten has been on a slippery slope for a little while, now its barely useable and as Jason Clark is away in Las Vegas nothing can be done. Well, not exactly nothing, early next week I hope to announce that a new Forum for Middlesex will be available. It will be quicker, and I hope you will have just as much fun.

On a related matter an article about the Grand Prix has been published relating to the finances of the competition. Unfortunately Kevin Blair has not been able to use Talking Tungsten to reply, but he wrote me an email in response.

"Basically the payouts are based on last years attendances and money collected , this year whether it be due to the web pages the entries have been greater than I imagined they could be , therefore the payouts for finals night will be more than stated on the sheets ( I can't predict the amount that turn up each week so could not put fantasy amounts to be won ) the only thing I would like to say is on all the flyers it stated at the bottom that the monies could change due to attendance figures ( and this is the case at the moment ) . With the inference that I wish to make a massive profit out of this comp is not the case I just could not put down prize money which could have been unachievable if people didn't turn up . Due to the fact that it was immediately presumed I pocketed all excess money in the Talking Tungsten write up I thought I would put u straight , if the turnouts remain around the same mark ( the piece in Talking Tungsten will have an adverse effect on that I'm sure ) the top 16 money will increase massively , for e.g.. I was looking at the winner going from £400 to £550 and so on downwards but cant guarantee don't know what to expect now ?" - Kevin Blair.

(28/6/07) Scottie becomes the 6th different winner of the Grand Prix. I have got a couple of great pictures of a well known player that I will publish shortly (as soon as my scanner is working again), in the meantime here is a picture of the Winner of the Ronchetti cup and the Secretaries cup Alan Taylor with Olly Croft O.B.E.

(27/6/07) The Grand Prix is being played tonight at the Royal Oak, topping the table is Peter Dyos, who incidentally signed Middlesex County forms recently. Peter is moving shortly to another county to live soon and has yet to make up his mind which county to play for. One would imagine that it would be easier to get a place in another county, but can he resist the lure and the challenge to get into a premiership team? Time will tell.

The picture to the left is of Phil Mitchell and his mum having won the mixed pairs.

On Talking Tungsten we have the June caption competition featuring Barbara again with Jo Candler (picture on right).

(26/6/07) The mystery photographer will Bill Duffy, so it's no surprise Middlesex's own Barbara Windsor is in most of them, this time she is accompanied by Barry Page.

I do my best to tread carefully around what may be political issues, and congratulations should go to Mr Bateman, Baldyman, Fifi, and Legs for their leadership last year (to name but a few), but if Middlesex were to have a manager in the premiership ( I like saying that) my own personal vote would be for Barry - if you have an opinion make it known at the County AGM this Sunday 1st July.

I think it has become public knowledge now that George McKie has signed to play for Middlesex next year, news which I am sure will be greeted well by all the squad. Without a shadow of a doubt George will strengthen the men's team overall, and what's more he is a nice chap too - glad to have you on board George.

Incidentally George still tops the table of the Super Summer Singles, however Vern may overtake him once the results come in from Caesars.

(24/6/07) Thanks to Chris Hill and a mystery photographer we have some pictures of the glorious Middlesex Ladies B Team, pictured with good friend to Middlesex, Olly Croft O.B.E.

The picture below is of equally glorious Ladies A Team with their all important trophy - more pictures to follow over the next few days.

(24/6/07) The presentation last night was an excellent success up until around 11 pm when I had to take my dad home.  I will come back to this later in the day, by which time I hope to have a few pics and role of honour sent to me by email please. If I were a little smarter I would have taken my camera and also nicked the role of honour myself - doh!

In the meantime the John Courage results have been updated on DartsHome.com.

(23/6/07) I have moved the 'Shots Out'  button on the navigation bar to DartsHome.com under the section Darts Info. This section may be relabelled 'Hints and Tips' shortly, so if you have any that you would like to pass on perhaps about practice routines, preparation, or clothing or equipment please email me. The Black Nun is also going to move in the near future though may be labelled less obtusely, again if you have similar stories I would love to receive them.

Make the effort to get to the presentation tonight (even if you are not up for a trophy) and share in the success of the county that everyone in the superleague has contributed to and should be proud of.

(22/6/07) The latest Grand Prix table is on DartsHome.com

Over the next few days I expect to have information on a new competition run by Andy Holland and Gary Cook called the London Darts Masters - keep an eye out for this as it is well sponsored and has a top prize of £900, mainly thanks to KP nuts. We should also have pictures of you who drink a little too much on Saturday night, and also the squad for the inter-county tournament held in Surrey.

Incidentally, have I missed the date for the Ladies Superleague AGM? If not would someone let me know the date so that those who use this site can be reminded. The County AGM is on the 1st of July.

(21/6/07) Simon Johns has stepped down as Chairman and Treasurer of the Mens Superleague. Roger Schena is to take over as Chairman and I think that Sharon Sadler is to take over the Treasurers job at least for the meantime. Simon will still hang around to support Sharon in particular, so it would be great if he was recognised for his efforts on the Presentation Night.

Middlesex County Mens A player of the year Gary Lewis delivers knock out blows to all the contenders at the Grand Prix this week.

(19/6/07 p.m.) Don't forget folks, it's the presentation night Saturday. We have a lot to celebrate this year, the ladies doing the double winning both A and B tables in our division and the county making it a treble with the promotion. It's our first time at Tithe Farm so lets try and have a good turnout! Look forward to seeing you all there on Saturday - Maggie Sutton.

(19/6/07) Sonia Duffy reached the last 16 of Bream Sands, and also reached the quarter finals of the triples with John Clark (Dorset), and Alan Taylor. Alan reached the third round of the mens singles.

(17/6/07) The John Courage Darts League is DartsHome.com  temporarily filed under the Grand Prix.

(16/6/07 p.m.) As from today there will be no further reports on the Super Summer Singles or the Grand Prix. Well there may be the odd one, however reports from Peter Evison and Kevin Blair can be found on the DartsHome.com site under the "features" section from the top navigation bar. DartsHome.com is nearing completion but is still being developed further, please let me have your thoughts on possible improvements.

Once the Ladies and the Mens Superleague have provided me with their fixtures list for both of the leagues then there will also be space on that site for their info. In addition individual teams within the league can have their own web pages too

(16/6/07) The Super Summer Singles next round is as follows. Caesars - Ben Burton v Nigel Justice, Steve McHale v Jimmy Mann, Mark Phillips v Chris Sargent, Peter Evison v Dale Masterton. Hillingdon BL - John Scott v Dean Marshall, Chris Chapman v Graham Inniss, Vern Shepherd v John Ferrell, Tony Hook v George McKie, Dean Marshall v John Ferrell.

For the Super Summer Singles results and table click this link.

(15/6/07) The official results from the Grand Prix have come in and Pete Dyos looks like he is pushing hard for county selection as he tops the table, beating Tony Utton in the quarters. Paul Davies had the highest finish of 150 earlier in the evening, later beating  Mick Clancy in the quarters and Peter Dyos in the semis.

In the other half Tony won the battle of he Hills, Chris losing in the quarters, and Phil Currie turned up the heat on Peter Stokes in the quarters before blowing off Tony Hill in the semis.

Vindaloo was the order of the day in the final as Phil was too hot for Paul Davies - report by Kevin Blair. Great to see a return to form by Phil. Here is the current table

(14/6/07) News of a new 'friendly' county tournament has been announced for eight men and five women from eight counties is to be played at the Epsom British Legion, the home of the Surrey County Darts Organisation, on the 15th of July. Two men and one  lady can be nominated as reserves for each team.

Surrey, Middlesex, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Oxford, and Norfolk have committed themselves leaving one place to be filled. London, and Sussex have declined to accept the invitation, Herefordshire have yet to respond positively. It seems like a great champions cup style event that I foresee will be an annual event.

In the Grand Prix last night a lot of the expected contenders were knocked out early, however a rejuvenated Phil Currie reigned supreme I am told - report and table to follow.

(13/6/07) The Superleague meeting is this Sunday, if you haven't put in a proposal you should still consider attending to have your say on the issues raised - the more the merrier.

(12/6/07 p.m.) Tony Hook maintains his unbeaten record and his 100% leg record in the Super Summer Singles, beating Mark Phillips 9 zip. Dale Masterman beat Dean Marshall 9- 5, and in what appears to be the game of the night Vern Shepherd just eclipsed Chris Chapman in a thrilling 9-8 victory, hitting a 138 and a 120 finish, whilst Chris had two 140 finishes of his own.

(12/6/07 a.m.) Johnny Scott and I started a little slowly last night in the Super Summer Singles, so much so that Steve McHale was concerned that the chalker (George McKie) "was at risk of getting arthritis in his fingers". Eventually we started to play better and at 5 a piece it was nip and tuck, however John did not win another leg although many of them were close and the final score was 9-5.  The next game up involved Steve McHale who had a blistering start but was soon caught up and overtaken by an excellent Nigel Justice. The final match at Caesars was between George McKie and Peter Evison and as you would expect it was a cracker with George taking he final two legs to make it 9-7.

(10/6/07) A little bird told me that Denise Burton matched the heroics of Peter Green winning all 16 of her superleague matches, however it was Pauline Dyer who topped the averages - congratulations to both ladies players.

(9/6/07) Jason goes out 6 -11 to Owen Caffery in the last 64 of the Blue Square UK Open Darts Championship. For further information watch the telly.

Peter Green and Gary Newnan were unable to match their earlier heroics losing 2-8 to Richie Burnett,  and 6-8 to Mark Pooke respectively. Alan Caves joined in at the third round going down 2 - 8 to Darren Webster, and Mark Walsh went out narrowly to Garret Gray 7-8.

The Cockney Jock however cruised to an 8 - 4 win over Steve Cusick and now faces Owen Caffery of Ireland in the fourth round. Owen is currently 86th in the PDC order of merit to Jason's 48th,  53rd in the PDPA Players Championship to Jason's 36th, and 45th in the UK Open Rankings to Jason 44th. On the surface of it Jason should be favourite - play resumes at 1.00 pm today on Sky Sports 3..

(8/6/07) A surprise to some, but not to others, Peter Dyos beats the very much in form George McKie in this weeks final of the Grand Prix.  On Peters journey to the final he also beat Gary Lewis in the semi, and Peter Green in the quarters, whilst George took out Scott Robertson and in the semi and Adam Simpson in the quarters. The other losing quarterfinalists were Steve Hyatt, Jason Price. The highest finish went to Steve Hyatt at 164, with notable finishes from Mick Ward (156) and Kevin Blair (138).

(8/6/07) Didn't we do well - Gary Newnan winning in the prelims and then beating Rico Vonck 8-6 in the first round, and also Peter Green beat his  Welsh compatriot Dylan Cook 8-5 in the Blue Square UK Open Darts Championship. Unfortunately Vern Sheppard was unable to topple Michael Barnard. All three were featured on TV though some more than others. Clarky joins the fun later today - come on the Royal Oak.

(7/6/07) Guess who's having a baby! Double D V could soon be Double E V (at least the baby won't go hungry). Congratulations Vanessa and Jason. I think its all public knowledge now - if it is not please disregard this message.

(5/6/07) A report on the recent exploits of the Middlesex Youth Team is on their very own page.

Whilst Shiny Shoes was finding his feet in the Super Summer Singles, he witnessed some excellent darts from a relentless Tony Hook and a spectacular George McKie. George had an 11 dart leg followed immediately by a 13 dart leg, however he did not have it all his own way as Chris Chatman kept in touch for the whole game.

The results were as follows:- Hillingdon Legion - John Scott (4) Ben Burton (9), Nigel Justice (9) Dean Marshall (4), Peter Evison (9) Chris Seargent (0). Caesars - Tony Hook (9) Dale Masterman (0), George McKie (9) Chris Chatman (6), Vern Shepherd (9), Graham Inniss (2).

(3/6/07) The Grand Prix Table has been provided by Kevin - Ray Cornibert and Tony "Topoff" Hill lead the table with 24 points after two weeks, neither of them yet winning a tournament outright yet.

The draw for the Super Summer Singles has been made, at Caesars in Cowley, Tony Hook v Dale Masterman,  Geoge McKie v Chris Chatman, Vern Shepherd v Graham Inniss. At the Hillingdon Legion the draw is as follows, John Scott v Ben Burton, Nigel Justice v Dean Marshal, Chris Seargent v Peter Evison.

(2/6/07) The final tables and averages are in for the Mens Superleague, Mr Scott had a few problems with his email so these stats are a little late, all the same a sterling job John. League Table, Individual Averages.

(1/6/07) Thank you to everyone registering teams and leagues on the DartsHome.com site, this part of the site is not launched officially yet, however please continue and let me know of your progress.

From the info below you know that Clarky beat Tony Hill in the final of this weeks Grand Prix, you may not know that it was at the semi-final stage that Tony beat Mr Cornibert, and Jason beat Peter Dyos. In the quarterfinals Tony beat Peter Stokes, Jason beat Adam, and in the other two semi-finals Mr C beat Peter Green and Peter Dyos beat Steve Brooks.

Scooch got the highest shot out with 135. Scooch had earlier been stretching his arms as if to prepare for a game, then I realised that he was showing me the exits to the front, to the sides, and to the rear.
