March 2007

(31/3/07) The Ladies B and the Men's B both draw with their counterparts form Bucks. Malika Lucas (19.52) and Terry Andrews (28.34) excelled in particular with the Lady and Man of the Match awards. Other Ladies winners were Coreen Loffler and Tina Moran, and for the Men Mark Sherwood, Mark Barkshire, Jim Byrne, Steve Hyatt and Graham Inniss.

Overall this was a good result as Bucks fail to gain any ground on Middlesex in the promotion race, meanwhile Cheshire extend their lead at the top by two more points as the Men's B draw and the Ladies B win 4-2 against Surrey. Sussex could have ended Gwent's chances of promotion by winning the Ladies B 4-2 and the Men's B 10-2, clearly Sussex can not be underestimated at our last home game as they fight for survival in the first division. No results for Herts v Lincs or Dorset v London yet.

(30/3/07) Its been a whole week since I last updated I am afraid, I've been a bit busy. To start I should remind everyone who can not make it to the game at Bucks that you can keep up to date using he Live Update page.

The Mens superleague averages and table are in from week 19.

Maggie Sutton has won the Berkshire Ladies Pentathlon for the second year running, well done Maggie.

Don't forget that on Friday 20th April a race night has been organised at Tithe Farm in order to raise money for the Middlesex Youth Team, see Mel Robinson this weekend for info.

(23/3/07) Kevin Blair is running the Grand Prix again, detail on the competition page. This is an excellent competition to get you ready for the county year to come, or to get you ready to push for a county place, Mr Potatohead will confirm this I am sure (by the way Bungle mashed him up on Wednesday). Blakey would have skinned Mr Potatohead, but he barely beat Little Ted (AKA Mark Sherwood) to keep his 100% record in tact.

(21/3/07) The prize money for the Summer Super Singles is as follows 1st place £600, 2nd £400, 3rd £250, 4th £175, 5th £150, 6th £100, 7th £75, 8th £50, 9th to 16th place just have the memory of competing and bugger all money. One venue of four has been confirmed as the Hillingdon British Legion - all further news with regard to this event will be posted on the competitions page.

(20/3/07 p.m.) The Mens superleague averages and table are in from week 18.

(20/3/07 a.m.) The Inter County individual dart average tables have been updated by the BDO. Leading the Mens A with 7 from 7 is Gary Lewis with a 25.29 dart average, and leading the Ladies A is Maggie Sutton with 6 from 6 and a 19.56 average. The BDO pages show B team players who have been promoted to the A, however the leading players still in the B are Mark Barkshire winning 5 from 6 with a 22.99 average and Malika Lucas winning 5 from 6 and with a 16.89 average.

Listen out for a new 'Super Summer Single' darts competition to be played on Tuesday nights in the Middlesex area. £50 will be the entry fee for the 16 entrants and prize money will be presented to the top 8 players who are to play a round robin tournament over a number of weeks. As soon as I hear more I will let you all know, however if you wish to be considered as an entrant email the organiser Peter Evison.

(17/3/07) Our web site is meant to be a fun and informative darts site, however sometimes public services are provided for those in real need. Today's society judges the unfortunate all too quickly, but I think that we should all from time to time consider those less fortunate than ourselves. With this in mind I thought it right to publish the picture to the right and a lonely hearts plea from one of the superleague players, who at present remains nameless.

"I am a short lady, but I drink pints too. I love Boy George hats, darts, and dressing up. I am an unmarried mother, and my baby Peter was an 'eavy son of a bitch in my womb ( I've done me pelvic floor exercises so I OK now).

I am looking for the wild adventurous type who has an open mind and wallet. I am told that I will soon be featured in a caption competition on Talking Tungsten, I will watch that closely".

(16/307) Roving reporter 'Hoocheye' has sent in a special report informing us all that the good looking lads from the Hayes FC B won 10-2 on Wednesday, further extending their lead at the top. If Father Ted's A and Hayes FC A win their games in hand it will result in a three way tie at he top, however Hayes FC B have won convincingly more often so their legs won could win them the title.

(15/3/07) Peter 'Blakey' Green returns to his top form with a 30+ average and remains leader in the mens superleague averages. However the Royal Oak A are definitely out of the league race for the top spot as they lose 7-5 to a triumphant  Father Ted's A. No news yet on Hayes FC B who will remain top of the heap regardless of their performance last night.

Race Night at the Farm. On Friday 20th April a race night has been organised at Tithe farm in order to raise money for the Middlesex Youth Team for their travel and new shirts. I have been informed that the horses are being sold by Mel Robinson, when you read this Mel I want Red Rum and Shergar. We need to raise as much money as we can for the youth so make the effort - everyone is welcome.

The youth team have a home game on Sunday the 25th of March, again - everyone is welcome.

As is my want, I left myself 5 in the Surrey superleague on Tuesday, I hit double one, single one, and double one - every one was welcome.

(12/3/07) Our little precious 'Gollum' has been featured in the Surrey article for Darts World magazine.

A new exiting and unique darts web site is to be launched shortly that will help support the 'save our darts' campaign, providing details of dart pubs around the country.

The web site is designed around and specifically for you the dart player and allows you  to decide the content of what will be your own individual DartsHome.com homepage. News and information from your local darts pubs, local leagues, your superleague, counties, BDO, and PDC will be available for you to select and read as you wish, and information regarding local, national, and international competitions will also be updated.

The DartsHome.com holding page has just been posted, the full operational web site will follow shortly that will allow you to structure your own DartHome.com homepage for the information that you use most frequently, so the question is 'What will be in your DartsHome.com?

(10/3/07 p.m.) There is a new competition in Essex organised for youth players, visit the competitions page for further information.

There is also a new caption competition on Talking Tungsten courtesy of HRH Charlie - I bet his shoes are shinier than mine.

(10/3/07 a.m.) Over the last couple of days I have darts thrown at me from all angles, though not literally. Johnny Vaughn on Capital radio informed me that darts was dying as fewer pubs now have dartboards, and then Eastender had a dart thrown in her her 'double bottom' and became a Rearender.

This morning on BBC 1 I heard that Prince Charles was featured in the Telegraph, it seems the future king is also worried that darts in the local pub is a dying game. In the shower and over the shop I went to get said Telegraph only to walk out with the Saturday Sport.

All the news of fewer dartboards in pubs has emanated from a 'Publican Market Report in October 2006' that surveyed over 1000 men between 18-65. The results were as follows, 'only 1 in 10 Brits enjoyed a game of darts in the last year', 'only 53% of pubs now have a dartboard'. For more info go to the www.saveourdarts.com web site.

What does this news mean to us as dart players, and if anything what should we do about it? Well it turns out that I and others are involved in a project that is shortly to be launched that I expect will help, but for a few more days I will keep it under wraps - watch this space. The icon to the right will give you a clue as to the project name ( you might have noticed it before the darts was recently in the news again).

(09/3/07) Our next opponents are Buckinghamshire, use this link to view their web site.

The team selection for the away game to Buckinghamshire has been made, there is no coach laid on as only 7 people contacted Mel regarding transport. As expected there is no change to the Ladies teams who continue to impress. Eddy Collinge is rewarded for a great man of the match performance against Surrey to the Mens A. Terry Andrews, Brian Green, and Mark Sherwood are selected for the Mens B as George Wilkinson has a breather. Go to the players page for the full team, and to the fixtures page for information regarding the venue.

(8/3/07) Micky 'Sega' Seager was in sparking form last night winning the English National Singles play off against an inspired Martin 'the skydiver' Miles, and coming runner up in the Winmau World Masters play off to Shiny Shoes. The other qualifier for the Winmau is Longman having beaten emerging star Peter Stokes.

(7/3/07) Talking Tungsten is talking tungsten again after going on a Jason Clark type bender. Having sobered up a little Talking Tungsten commented, "Yes I had a couple of beers but I remained fully in control, although I have lost a few days from my memory". Help TT fill in the gaps lost after the last week or so.

(6/3/07) Fatal did not get through to the Superleague Singles, however Phil Currie, Peter Stokes, and Dobby/Trigger did get through. This Thursday we have the English National Singles and the World Masters Singles.

(5/3/07 p.m.) The Mens and Ladies A maintained an excellent lead provided by the B Team, both the mens and the Ladies A drew with an excellent Surrey team - Our Chairman's match report is in for the Surrey game, our recent other match reports are to follow shortly. Also updated today is the Results page and the Statistics page.

We also have the Division 1 league tables showing our Mens A in joint 4th place 5 points off of 2nd placed Surrey and level with our next opponents Buckinghamshire. The Ladies A are also placed in 4th position but they are only 2 points behind the leaders. The Mens B  are in 3rd place 1 point behind second placed Gwent, and finally and certainly not least our Ladies B are at the pinnacle of their table.

So all to play for then at Buckinghamshire who trail us by only 10 points, but should we be looking at the team behind us when we perhaps should be looking at the team only 5 points ahead? Answers on a post card.

(5/3/07 a.m.) The Mens superleague averages and table are in from week 17, Father Ted's A and Hayes FC B are slugging it out at he top with the Royal Oak A and Hayes FC A still in contention. Adam Simpson heads the tons per leg average and the highest running average per leg at 27.29, Stuart Pickles tops the 180's with 8 maximums.

(3/3/07) The Ladies get the B Team off to an excellent 5-1 win with Lisa Brosnan winning Lady of the match for the second time in a row. Eddie Collinge wins the man of the match in what was a great team 10-2 win over a strong Surrey mens team.

(1/3/07) Middlesex are away to Surrey this weekend, those of you who can not make it to the match can view the Surrey Live Match Update to check on our progress, thanks to Martin Cullip from Surrey. For the updates from your WAP phone the address is www.matchdayupdates.com/mobile/surreycountydarts.

Steve 'Gollum' Hyatt has had his personal web page updated, as has Dobby, but I need more info for the house elf..

Peter Green knocks in an 11 darter (180, 140, 135, 46 in two darts) to maintain his position at the top of the averages, whilst Micky Seager models next years county shirt commenting 'I love this one as it almost identical to my beloved QPR shirts'.
