May 2007

(31/5/07) Tony Hill was again on sparkling form last night in the Grand Prix, only falling at the last hurdle to the Cockney Jock having earlier beaten Ray Cornibert. Jason had earlier taken out Adam Simpson and Gary Newnan. Further details will follow along with the current points details.

I have spent some time (with the help of a few significant others) developing a new web site that is aimed at darts players, and also dart league organisers amongst others.

It is very much early days at the moment (and there are a few bugs and errors that are being addressed) but try it out by clicking the DartsHome.com image. As more and more darts league organisers become involved the site will become more useful to individual dart players and teams alike.  With this in mind it would be good if someone from both the Ladies and Men's superleague committee registers their league, in fact I would like a committee member form all local leagues to register their own leagues - more is explained on the site itself.

The first feature that I would like dart players to take part in is the Save Our Darts Campaign. By signing up all the pubs and clubs that you know that have a dartboard will allow a database to be formed that will eventually allow you to travel the country and find a dartboard without all the hassle (At the moment the number of dartboards in each pub and club will not display in the results but that will be remedied soon).

If there are any comments or points that you wish to make please email me.

(30/5/07) The second week of the Grand Prix is again at the Royal Oak.

There is a strong line up for the Super Summer Singles, perhaps this is why getting the last two places filled is difficult. The players so far are George McKie,  Vern Shepherd, Nigel Justice, Dean Marshall, Chris Seargent, Graham Inniss (there is also one exception to the rule) John Scott (maybe two), Chris Chatham, Dale Masterman, Steve McHale, Tony Hook, Jimmy Mann, Ben Burton, and Peter Evison.

If this has tempted you contact Peter Evison by email or by dialling 07715 180 280, remember this round robin competition starts next Monday. The entry fee is £50 for 15 weeks of darts, just over £3 per week entry fee, providing high quality competition, best of 17 games each match, and £400 winners cheque with good prize money down to 6th position.

(29/5/07) Phil Taylor wins the Holsten Premier League Darts Title winning 16-6 against Terry Jenkins in the final.

I have had a few enquiries about the London Darts School, and I understand that a few Middlesex Youth players will be going to the opening to support the cause on the 14th of July at St. Augustine's Priory, 55, Fulham Palace Rd, London, W6 8AU.

(28/5/07) The BDO announced a celebration tour by Martin Adams and Trina Guliver a few weeks ago - The nearest venue for most of us is at the Galtymore Dance Club, Cricklewood to be held on the 26th October 2007.

I have been informed that two places are available in the Super Summer Singles starting next Monday - contact Peter Evison by email or by dialling 07715 180 280. For further detail see the competitions page.

(26/5/07) I saw it with my own eyes a 15 dart game by the 13 times world champ - nothing special some of you will say but I am talking about a game of 701, that is at an average of almost 47 a dart or 140 per throw including the finish!

Phil "The Power" Taylor played an exhibition MC'd by Russ "The Voice" Bray last night at the Elephant Inn against 10 local players, two of which are well known Middlesex superleague players Gary Cooke (right) and Andy Holland (centre), John Scott couldn't make it for the picture and sent his appolgies.

On the form that Phil Taylor was on you would expect a whitewash, ..... not this time, and Phil was beaten by a man that didn't even bother to bring his own darts. Although Reg was given a little help by Russ Bray on the shot before the finish (double top, it sailed in first dart) it should be noted that Reg did play very well, he had two darts fall out of the board, and his flights kept falling out.

The picture to the left is of Reg, who returned the borrowed darts to their rightful owner without telling Mr Taylor.

(24/5/07) A report by Dave Bateman - Congratulations to Middlesex Youth player Luke Langley, who took on the might of London Superleague players and won the Superleague singles trophy. Anyone wishing to congratulate him in person can see him play at Tithe Farm on Sunday in the Youth game against Kent. Help with the stage set-up would also be much appreciated.

There were some great games played last night in the Grand Prix with Ben Stevenson top of the heap with some spectacular darts both in the final against Ray Cornibert, and also against Tony Hill in the semi final. The ever improving Peter Dyos lost in the other semi-final, and even at this early stage of the closed season both Tony and Peter are showing they are able to compete with some of the best that Middlesex have to offer.

Losing quarterfinalists were Peter Stokes, Graham Inniss, Martin Ekis, and Adam Simpson. Dennie Turner achieved the highest finish of 135 in his first round game against Gerry Mooney. It was good to see lots of new faces, although  most of them fell in the first two rounds - report compiled from info supplied by Kevin Blair and Tony.

(23/5/07) Those wishing to play in the Grand Prix should go to the competitions page as it starts this evening at the Royal Oak. Also featured on the competitions page is the Fern Lodge Social Club Competition, the Oxfordshire Open, and there may be one or two spaces left in the Super Summer Singles also featured on the competitions page.

Finally, Talking Tungsten is back on line. It is envisaged that Middlesex will have a forum on another site shortly, details to follow - in the meantime keep posting.

(22/5/07) The Ladies are having their finals night tonight, so we should have some news shortly - well done to Pauline Dyer for winning the Ladies Superleague Singles - more info on he Ladies Superleague page, including the latest tables/results/averages.

(21/5/07) Here is a video found on You Tube with the premier league walk on music, and here's more correspondence from Maggie Sutton.

I went to the the Alma Road competition on 15th April -  they hold them regularly (monthly or so) and I didn't know if you had the date for the next one. It was a really good days darts as it's run on a round robin basis great practice. Guess they would have more prize money if more turn up!! I lost in the semi-final to George Mckie....after beating Paul Luker in the quarters!

Well done Maggie, I hope that encourages more players to attend. Hoocheye tells me that the next one is on the 3rd of June, see the competition page for more details.

(20/5/07) It was not that I was wrong, it was more that I was not totally right. Jason lost against Alan Warriner-Little 3-1, who subsequently lost to Mervyn King - so I got all the names right just the results went a little adrift. However as a result of winning the first two rounds 3 zip, the Cockney Jock will rise to position 48 in the PDC rankings (I think) and in so doing overtake Jamie Harvey as the top jock. Jason is ranked 36th in the PDPA merit table and 44th in the Budweiser UK Open order of merit. The break though did not come this week for Jason, but he is very much back on the up and good things are sure to follow. The last 16 is played out later today.

(19/5/07 pm) I am going to stick my neck out a little just an hour or so before the start of the US Open 2007. Jason Clark is in excellent form and is in a great frame of mind so I predict him to win a minimum of £3,000 prize money beating Alan Warriner-Little and Mervyn King along the way. The US Open is shown on Challenge TV from 7.30 this evening.

(19/5/07 am) Middlesex Youth are playing on Sunday the 27th March - more details will follow.  Support is always welcome and as always help on setting up the stage will be appreciated.

Staying on the topic of the young, the London Darts School is opening on the 14th July, again more news will follow shortly.

(18/5/07) On Tuesday of this week a one hour celebrity special of Bullseye for Vernon Kay’s Game Show Marathon Series 2 was recorded featuring Martin (Wolfie) Adams, Raymond Van (Barney), Barnevelde, Phil (the Power) Taylor, and Tony (Mr 180) Green (also pictured is Andrew Wood the writer/producer).

Bullseye will be shown on Saturday 19th May 2007 at 6:55pm on ITV1.  The word is  that "it was the best recording of any Bullseye show to date, and the dart throwing was phenomenal".

There is a competition on the bullseye web site www.bullseyeonline.net where bendy bullys and interactive DVD's can be won.

(17/5/07) Has anyone seen the 'Darts Dream Team' in The Sun? I don't know what it is about yet, but I do have a link. If someone has an opinion or advice on the matter post it on the forum please.

(16/5/07) There is a new competition on the competitions page, and I also have some interesting info about Peter Green and his darts history to date. Other superleague players (ladies welcome) are encouraged to do the same.

(15/5/07) The following report is from Maggie Sutton re Hemsby and Hailing Island - more of the same please Maggie, and for that matter anyone else who has news of note.

"Hi Guys, As all the reports on the website re-competition info seems to be about the men, thought I'd fill you in on the girlies.

Although last week at Hemsby wasn't too successful for us, apart from myself just into the money with Richie Davies and (oh, my ribs!) Jamie Sadler in the mixed triples and Fifi into the semi-final with Ian and Alan, Hayling Island was a little better. Sonia and I made it to the semi-final of the pairs, narrowly missing out on the final leg to Tricia and Dawn to make it to the final. Sonia missed out on getting to the final losing 4-3 to Tricia in the semi-final of the singles. I managed (somehow) to win 4-3 against Dawn to play Trish in the final.

Although, going 2-1 up, I eventually lost 4-2 after missing bull to equal it for 3-3....never mind! It was a great weekend as usual and a free voucher for next year........! Hurrah!

Bye for now  - Maggie".

(14/5/07) The winner of the IDL Darts League was Gary Anderson who won 13-9 over Mark Webster. Bobby George's son Richie George was beaten 6-5 in the final of the youth tournament by Pascal van Mounk (Ned).

Jason Clark has found a web site that he is making full use of, the videos improve after the first one he made. Pop on to talking tungsten for a peep - it might even cheer up the Nightwatchman? Please notify me of any factual errors by email and I will happily investigate and correct if necessary.

(13/5/07) The final of the IDL Darts League is to be played between Mark Webster of Wales and Scotland's 'Dreamboat' Gary Anderson. "What no PDC players?" I here you cry, well losing semi finalist were Adrian Jackpot Lewis who lost 9-1 to Gary, and the BDO's Tony O'Shea of England.

Tony O'Shea had earlier hit a 9 dart game against Raymond van Barneveld in the quarterfinal and won an Opel Tigra Twin Top car. The only other PDC player to get the the last 8 was James Wade, the other players to get to the last 8 were Mark Webster, Gary Robson, and Darryl Fitton who had fine wins against Phil Taylor and Michael Van Gerwen.

Clearly this does not prove that BDO players are better than PDC players (well it does for this tournament some will say), but it does a little to counter the argument the other way.

(12/5/07) There are major worries over the UK's entrants Scooch in the Eurovision Song Contest this evening with one of the band threatening to walk out. David (the one with the dark hair) said "There is no way I can go out on stage and perform tonight knowing that John Healey is going round pretending to be me - I didn't even know he was gay! In any case he looks more like a friggin Klingon than me". John Healey was not available for comment as he is believed to be  on his way to Helsinki for the show.

(10/5/07) Last night there were some exceptional games in the Ronchetti 1001 singles, mostly involving Peter Barnes. In the first round he beat Peter Green 2 -0 with around 30 ish darts in each leg, but in the semi final Peter bettered that with a 25 dart leg still while managing to waste 2 darts at a double - that's a 40 average!. Alan Taylor reached the final without throwing his best darts so the odds were firmly with Peter, ........ Alan won though.

It was Alan's night as he went on to win the secretaries cup beating John Scot in the final, whilst Terry Andrews beat John Healey in the final of the captains cup.

Rather than delete information on this page to make room for new information I will be filing it away into history under the Home History link at the top of this page.

(7/5/07) Most of the Middlesex players and officials have their own web pages on the players pages of this site. For those of you wish to update them please send me your info and pictures now so that I can update your page in  the closed season ready for the beginning of the next season in the premiership. Any pictures that are sent may also be used as on the main screen as you are called up on stage.

Besides the Middlesex county players I want to add further pages initially for the superleague players, starting with Peter Green to reflect his recent achievement.

Sky Sports it seems have decided that they have reached saturation point for their coverage of darts so they won't be screening the Grand Slam of darts with both PDC and BDO players competing against each other. The event to be played just weeks before the Lakeside World Championships may well be screened by ITV who will provide a further boost to the game of darts.

(6/5/07) The Hanworth Royal British Legion is holding its 2nd Open Competition on the 1st of July (same date as the Cambridgeshire Open), and the Super Summer Singles starting Monday 4th June  has a few remaining places, see the competitions page for details.

(4/5/07) THE BUS STOPS FOR BLAKEY!

Bill Duffy slaughters Peter Green on the very last game of the men's superleague season to ruin Peter Greens 100% winning streak - this would have been a the headline if it were true (in fact it is the headline even though it is not).

I have had this picture waiting in the wings just in case someone beat Peter, but that was not the case but I had to mark the occasion somehow. I have a question for you all (the men's superleague committee in particular). Who was the last person to achieve a 100% record having played every game in the men's superleague, and when was it? I don't know the answer by the way, but I am interested - the question is posed on Talking Tungsten, as is the latest caption competition featuring this picture of Steve Davis (nearly all of the recent pictures have been provided by Alan Taylor).

(3/5/07) I don't know the score from last night, but I understand that Father Ted's has won the Men's Superleague this year. Pictured to the right is Father Ted's talisman with his his 'little pony'. Richie asked me to post this picture as he was being bothered by too many women thinking that he had his nickname for his appendage.

(2/5/07) Due to the clash of the 2008 Dutch Open with the original fixture. As you are aware this event involves over 3,000 players, many of whom are British and are most likely to be involved with BICC matches. The date for the February BICC fixture has been changed to 2/3rd February 2008 - Dave Alderman BICC Director.

The picture to the left is of Eddie The Undertaker Collinge making his 50th appearance for Middlesex, marking it with a fine win for the A Team.
