Middlesex Youth Reports (27/9/07)
SOUTHERN INTER-COUNTIES YOUTH DARTS CHAMPIONSHIP 2007/2008 It was great to see some new youngsters joining Middlesex
Youth for the start of the 2007/2008 campaign and it started well with a narrow
8-9 defeat to Essex. Elaina Shaw on her debut and Amanda Howe played in
the under 18’s and gave a good account of themselves but both unfortunately
came up against strong opponents. Dave Everley won 2-0 with a 19/65 average, which gave him
the U18’s Man of the Match. Jamie Davis 16/98 and Jamie Grinhaff 16/66 both
won 2-0 to make the U18 result 6-3 to Essex. The girls were up next and newcomer Susan Tampin won
her first game 2-0 and also took the Lady of the Match award. Lauren Peacock and
Lisa Brosnan came up against tough opposition and the final result for the
ladies was 2-1 to Essex. In the interval 3 reserve games were played with some
great talent showing through for Middlesex in Henry Murphy and George
Killington, who at only 11 is a budding star of the future. On to the under 21’s and having a strong squad we
felt that we could pick up vital points and Luke Langley set the standard
winning 3-1 with a 20/62. Next was Terry Young who played superb darts to win
3-1 with a 19/25. Wayne Moulds went 2-0 up but his opponent came back to 2-2 and
Wayne narrowly lost out 3-2 with a 17/65. Grant Taylor continued his winning streak with a 3-0 win
with a 23/48 which bagged him U21’s Man of the Match. Grant’s younger
brother Bradley Taylor playing his first U21 game after coming up from the
U18’s and performed to the highest level finishing the day off with a
3-1 win. So the final result was an 8-9 loss but congratulations to
all the youth players and a special thanks to those who helped set the stage up,
get the boards ready and helped out during the day with the raffle, programmes
and putting the stage away at the end. Your help is much appreciated. Jennie Rooney, Child Protection Officer, Middlesex County
Youth Darts (5/6/07) A great report from Lakeside! "Just to add from last night that the triples Lisa, Jamie and Luke had to play 4 hard games to get into the semis knocking out teams from Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire (Lisa took out 107 finishing on the bull) and beat David Weir's Sussex team to get into the semi final which they lost 2-1 to Berkshire's top triple, but actually had darts to go through. Jamie and Luke played fantastic throughout all of the rounds and I think Lisa will admit herself she wasn't really on form but that's why they played so well as a team. In the ladies pairs Susan Tampin who has only just joined the Middlesex Youth team played well finishing many of the doubles to get them through the rounds of which they had to play four to get through to the final but after a gruelling hot!!!!! day the girls from Cornwall were just too good for them and they lost 2-0 but put up a good fight. Wayne had to play five rounds to get into the semi finals and although he played exceptionally well his opponent played fantastic hitting two 180's in the two legs of darts, but he went one further than last year as he lost in the quarter finals so next year hopefully will be his year. All the other players performed to a really high standard through out the day with Lisa Brosnan, Grant Taylor and Luke Langley getting through three rounds in their respective singles matches. Jamie lost in round two nut I think this was a learning kerb for him and hopefully will be much more prepared and experienced next year. I would like to say and would like it noted that all the Middlesex Youth players conducted themselves admirably and all associated with Middlesex County Darts should be proud of them. They all supported one another in every game that was played even though the temperatures were absolutely unbearable in the hall all day, with beer and soft drinks running dry at the bar and lack of decent food they stayed to encourage one another The players involved yesterday were Lisa Brosnan, Jamie Davis, Luke Langley, Grant Taylor, Bradley Taylor, Wayne Sheldrick, Peter Stokes, Wayne Moulds and Susan Tampin and I was proud to be there with them all as were the other parents and supporters present. I hope that these kids get the recognition they deserve at the presentation dance this year and Middlesex AGM" - Richie and Jennie. |
